Position Summary:

The NBA G League is seeking a Commercial Director to oversee business operations for its G League franchise - NBA G League Ignite (GLI). This person will play a key role in the continued growth and expansion of G League Ignite franchise, creating new revenue streams and growing GLI's brand and fan base. The role will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations, including but not limited to revenue generation and P&L management, sponsorship sales, marketing partner advertising and integrated media activation, community and public relations, working in conjunction with the NBA G League Leadership team, GLI Team Leadership and the GLI Arena and Commercial Partner. This individual will report directly to the G League's Head of Global Partnerships with dotted line reporting to the COO, NBA G League. The successful candidate will develop and implement the new business development strategy with a focus on new partnership development and business opportunities, including research, prospecting, pitching, negotiating and securing new GLI Partners. The role will require growing and managing relationships with partners, brands and businesses in market as well as on a national level. S/he will also be tasked with creating new revenue streams as the fan base continues to grow.


Major Responsibility:

  • Serve as primary contact and manage business and league relationships between NBA G League Leadership, GLI Leadership and GLI Arena and Commercial Partner Leadership
  • Lead and coordinate business and commercial operations of the team (GLI), including but not limited to, direct management and accountability for annual business planning and budget, development and execution of business development and global partnership strategy and plans, and supporting execution activities across a variety of fan/consumer/audience touch points
  • Serve as day-to-day contact with arena and city/county/state leadership on behalf of League Coordinate business operations of GLI with Basketball Operations
  • Lead the development and execution of both a traditional and digital content distribution plan for the team that effectively drives audience goals, grows the reach and audience of the team (i.e., identify and explore local and national content distribution opportunities for games/content)
  • Partner with GLI Arena and Commercial Partner, NBA Technical Broadcast Operations, and G League Content team on live game production, exhibition, presentation and in-arena experience
  • Support GLI Arena and Commercial Partner on ticket sales, partnership marketing, community engagement, etc. to optimize visibility for the team In conjunction with GLI Arena and Commercial Partner ensure events and games are accurately planned and staffed to provide an engaging guest experience and a professional environment for the team
  • Support the execution of plans designed to improve Team's image and relations with customers, fans and community; establish excellent relationships with corporate and other partners, including local government and the community
  • Benchmark, track and report KPIs and Commercial Partnership goals in order to measure and maintain success and continued growth of GLI Reporting and implementation of League and team guidelines and best practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 8-10 years of experience working in corporate partnerships, account management and directly sourcing and generating new business
  • Ability to work and collaborate with proven leadership success at an executive level
  • Experience providing support and guidance to a team/staff
  • Commercially minded and results driven, problem-solver with a track record of securing high level partnerships
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated bias toward action, ability to identify and evaluate opportunities, establish/organize a clear path forward and creatively execute
  • Ability to use and implement data and insights in decision-making
  • Ability to present self in professional manner and have ability to get along with all levels of organization inside and outside of the organization
  • Experience managing multiple projects, setting priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Deal execution experience required
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and presentation skills
  • Up to date with business trends across various markets and industry sectors
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a global, matrix organization
  • Understanding of media rights landscape
  • Experience in professional sports organizations preferred



  • Bachelor's degree Required, MBA or advanced degree a plus
