Essential Functions and Job/Position Summary:
This individual will lead the Broadcast Engineering support for live game & event productions, master control services, and distribution. Direct the technical support team and operations for live broadcasts from remote locations through the broadcast facility at NBA Entertainment. This position requires a person with advanced knowledge of mobile unit productions, master control, and transmission. The person must also have experience in broadcast systems, including video, audio, IP, non-linear record/playback devices, and control systems workflow.
Major Responsibilities:
- Work with Broadcast Operations & Engineering, Production, and IT to support game productions.
- Evaluate and guide decisions regarding new technology and production models, including cloud and remote production.
- Manage vendor relationships for product support of game productions, master control, and distribution (rentals, upgrades, new product development, etc.).
- Contribute to event support and remote buildouts.
- Contribute to the technical support of the High-Speed Arena Network (HSAN), which is the NBA's private fiber network connecting each NBA arena and NBA Entertainment.
- Assist in the technical support and management of the NBA's acquisition and distribution infrastructure.
- Perform on-call, on-site remote emergency troubleshooting and repairs
Required Education/Professional Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in broadcast engineering.
- College degree in Communications/Engineering or related field required.
- Significant field experience will be considered in place of a college degree.
Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes:
- Demonstrated and experienced leader with the ability to foster high standards, coach, inspire, and lead the team.
- Experience working with routing platforms for video, media workflow, video transport, and delivery.
- Superior knowledge of broadcast systems and operations.
- Ability to assemble and operate studio, post, and on-air production systems.
- Experience in supporting non-linear devices such as EVS or equivalent.
- Expertise in video compression, video over IP, and Software Defined Video Networks.
- Experience in broadcast network design and video over IP workflows.
- Familiarity with SMPTE standards as they pertain to broadcasting, such as SMPTE 2110.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and creatively.
- Willingness to travel and accept shift and weekend assignments.
Salary Range: $165,000 - $190,000
