Project Employee, NBA Social Content - Lifestyle Platforms

Position Summary:

This position is part of the NBA Social & Digital Content team which focuses on identifying, creating, distributing and publishing content to the NBA's social and digital platforms and its many domestic and international partners throughout the world. As the demand for content on the NBA's social platforms continues to grow, this is your opportunity to grow with us in a fast-paced, innovative and collaborative environment, reaching over 100M fans around the world. 

 

The ideal candidate is immersed in the lifestyle aspect of the game of basketball from player kicks to fashion to celebs at games, while also being an expert on the on-court game. They know how to create creative video or graphics content to publish to TikTok, Reels, Shorts and Spotlight, as well as traditional social platforms. They are an expert on all the latest trends across social and how to create NBA content around those trends. They also have a strong understanding of the native social platform shopping tools used to sell merchandise and grow commerce.

 

Lastly, this candidate has their finger on the pulse of the NBA and spends their free time immersing themselves in podcasts, message boards or consuming short and long form content about the NBA and the culture around the game.

 

This is a 10 month project employee position based out of the NBA’s Secaucus, New Jersey office.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assist with content planning for lifestyle content across the NBA’s social platforms for daily and nightly publishing, which may include @NBA, @NBAKicks and @NBAStore social accounts
  • Work with internal teams to create unique content around NBA lifestyle storylines, player on-court storylines, kicks, fashion and NBA merchandise that is optimized for each platform
  • Publish content to platforms by writing copy, selecting hashtags, tagging appropriate accounts and using any necessary effects, filters or text over the content
  • Be an expert on the latest platform content trends across TikTok, Reels, Shorts and Spotlight, as well as traditional social platforms
  • Be an expert on the best ways to promote merchandise for sale across social platforms by using native platform shopping tools
  • Analyze metrics and optimize content to continue to increase views and engagement
  • Ability to assist with publishing on additional NBA social platforms when needed

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledgeable and passionate about the NBA and its players, coaches and teams
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about the off-court culture of the NBA, which includes player fashion, kicks, music, hobbies and community engagement initiatives, in addition to the on-court game
  • Strong understanding of basketball stats and the rules of the game
  • Strong experience creating content for and publishing to TikTok, Reels, Shorts and Spotlight, as well as traditional social platforms
  • Understanding of native platform shopping tools used to sell merchandise across all social platforms
  • Knowledge and experience writing and creating video/graphics content about basketball
  • Understanding of the NBA’s social voice
  • Understanding of metrics available on TikTok, Reels, Shorts and Spotlight, as well as traditional social platforms
  • Ability to work on deadline and handle multiple tasks at once with a precise and detail-oriented approach
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Great communication skills and ability to provide clear, detailed feedback
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as this position may include working days, nights, weekends and holidays based on the NBA calendar
  • Must be a team player who can work collaboratively

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications or related field preferred
