Head of Content, DTC

Position Summary:

Candidate will be a member of the NBA's Social & Digital leadership team, overseeing the direct to consumer content offerings on the NBA's suite of official digital products, including NBA.com and the global NBA app. The primary responsibility of the position is to develop and execute the content strategy for the global digital audience. Candidate must thrive in a fast-paced, often live, work environment, be proactive, exhibit strong awareness of content monetization trends, and sound work ethic with an aptitude for team collaboration and communication.

Major Responsibility:

- Lead the development of owned-and-operated and direct-to-consumer content strategy

- Represent the content team to internal and external senior leaders on issues related to owned-and-operated content

- Oversee the premium and non-premium content plan for the NBA's digital product suite

- Build a team to oversee content development, content creation and content publishing

- Maintain alignment on strategic goals with senior leadership of cross-functional partners (Product, Marketing, Distribution, etc.) by providing clear verbal and written context

 - Communicate content trends and industry shifts, including implications and recommendations, to internal and external partners

 - Develop market expertise through continuous focus on and knowledge of the competitive and market environment in each of the strategic priority markets       - Champion initiatives to experiment and create differentiated content

- Analyze content performance results, summarize key findings and use data to drive content planning and decision-making

- Develop social media workflow that supports both organic and paid social promotion and engagement with NBA League Pass

- Provide content recommendation for targeted push notification strategy for subscribers, lapsed subscribers and anonymous users

- Communicate directly with senior leadership to share project status, and to escalate risks as needed to ensure visibility, ownership, and timely resolution - Maintain an in-depth library of comparable content across OTT landscape

- Evaluate operational workflow for efficiency and scalability; identify challenges and provide innovative solutions

- Track & manage all related costs and provide forecasts for upcoming years

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

- Prior experience programming or creating content for a large-scale video product with AVOD, TVOD or SVOD business model

- Acute attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment

- Knowledge of sports media landscape is a plus

- Experience in developing strategy for website, app and/or social media platforms

- Experience in live streaming technology

- Video and photo editing skills

- Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

 

Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
