Strategic Partnerships & Operations Director, Digital

Position Summary:

The Strategic Partnerships & Operations Director will play an integral role in securing and effectively managing the success of key digital strategic initiatives and partnerships for the NBA, including primary responsibility for ensuring the smooth operation of the joint venture between the NBA and Turner (NBA Digital), . This role will oversee the transparent and efficient processes between the NBA and partners in relation to both the joint venture and the integration of other strategic partners into the NBA’s new Next Gen digital ecosystem.

You will be responsible for internal and external communication around strategic initiatives, including venture related projects and will be responsible for helping the team execute on strategic priorities including budget management and revenue projections. You will partner with team leads across Product & Design, Engineering, Business Development, Finance, Facilities, HR and Legal on key objectives and help drive organizational alignment.


The ideal candidate will need to have proven communication skills with a special focus on effective collaboration. The candidate will be responsible for cultivating a positive culture and work environment for the larger project team.

Major Responsibilities:


• Develop, maintain and deploy best practice frameworks and processes to facilitate alignment between NBA departments and strategic partners, with a particular focus on leading this work for the NBA in the JV with Turner

• Work closely with Strategic Partnerships Lead, Next Gen, and internal NBA business and partnerships leads to identify, strategize, ideate, and ultimately convert existing and prospective NBA partners into the Next Gen initiative

• Together with Strategic Partnerships Lead, act as conduit between NBA business teams and the DTC/Next Gen teams (particularly Product & Design, Engineering, Monetization, Membership and Next Gen Telecasts) in relation to ideation and execution of the integration of strategic partners into Next Gen including having a deep understanding of product roadmap and priorities, engineering capacity, various sub-team goals and how those work together in relation to broader DTC/Next Gen and league objectives, and using that knowledge to effectively manage partnership discussions and effective implementation

• Play a key role in the continued evolution and innovation of the venture, and other strategic initiatives/partnerships that are executed, in relation to the NBA’s Next Gen initiative and other associated future-facing developments at the league

• Focus on organization of the venture including ownership of shared calendar and orderliness of key documents and reports

• Assist in business forecasting and budget management exercises including coordinating quarterly board meetings for review of financials and business needs. Will work in close collaboration with the finance and direct-to-consumer teams

• Support budget management by ensuring key deals, partnerships and relationships are tracked and in-line with budget and strategic priorities

• Understand and help drive venture objectives and key revenue results

• Assist communication and collaboration across the project team to ensure they stay informed, inspired and aligned

• Assist in meeting management including collecting and preparing content, capturing notes and action items, and ensure actions are tracked and executed

• Contribute to the creation of internal and external communications, including executive reports, presentations, analysis, strategic plans and other ad-hoc materials


Required Skills/Knowledge:

• 7+ years of experience in partner or business management; media and/or product related roles

• Highly skilled in written and verbal communication

• Notable experience in media, including in digital media and technology, highly preferred.

• Highly effective presentation skills with proven ability to distill complex information into digestible insights for a variety of audiences

• Naturally curious and collaborative, demonstrated through prior experience and achievements

• Excellent project management and overall organizational skills

• Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word applications

• Analytical and process-oriented with exceptional attention to detail; able to manage large, complex projects with dedicated follow-through

• Ability to build effective relationships and work well with a wide variety of people across functions and levels

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently as well as within a team environment

• Experience and comfort working in complex organizations, with multi-faceted teams and external partners

• Flexible and adaptable working style; can easily accommodate changes in priorities while managing toward broader goals

BA/BS degree preferred or relevant equivalent experience
