Cloud Engineer, Next Gen

Position Summary:

League Pass is one of the NBA’s best-in-class products available in over 215+ countries that allows fans live and archive access to games from the preseason through the NBA Finals. Whether it be for the NBA, WNBA, G League or 2K League millions of people visit sites, engage with mobile apps, and view our content across multiple platforms.  We are looking for a software engineer that will help to drive the NBA digital products to the forefront as we deliver video to consumers and other business partners. This will include workflow management and use of cloud media services to deliver low-latency video to digital products both internal to the NBA, and externally.  The ideal candidate for this role will have strong experience with understanding the many aspects cloud workflows, serverless architecture, and instantiation of cloud media services.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work as a part of a software development team to contribute to current product development projects involving authentication flows and live/VOD asset delivery
  • Contribute to full stack cloud-based development projects that help to build the NBA's next generation of fan-facing products
  • Planning, designing and developing cloud-based applications.
  • Managing cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines.
  • Using your extensive knowledge of APIs to design RESTful services, and integrate them with existing data providers, using JSON or XML as needed.
  • Work with other partners to finalize technical plans and specifications for development projects
  • Engineer end-to-end multimedia infrastructure and delivery for consumption in web and native apps
  • Make iterative improvements to deliver reliable and flexible streaming content
  • Develop and own multimedia delivery strategies and methodology
  • Develop automation tools for scaling delivery of video content to partners
  • Respond to and work with technical resources to isolate and resolve system issues

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • 5+ years of experience in developing software in C# and cloud-based services, preferably Azure
  • Knowledge of web services, API, REST and RPC.
  • Strong awareness of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP and distributed networks.
  • Database experience, including knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, and related data stores such as Postgres.
  • Experience with cloud orchestration systems
  • Must be able to work with Visual Studio and GitHub in an Agile development environment
  • Display an aptitude for taking initiative to go above and beyond
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
  • Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments
  • Ready and willing to learn from other members of our team
  • Detail oriented with a desire for seeing projects through to completion
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations
  • 3+ years of experience working as Cloud Engineer role or related position
  • 3+ years of working in an Agile (Scrum) product (mobile, web, tablet) environment

 

Preferred Experience

 

  • Strong knowledge of video delivery over industry leading CDNs (Akamai, Cloudfront, Level3, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of media encoding server technologies and codecs (e.g. FFMPEG)
  • Strong knowledge of encoding protocols (AAC, H.264, H.265) and streaming protocols (RTMP, HDS, HLS, DASH)
  • 3+ years of video streaming development experience (or equivalent).

 

Educational Background 

  • BS in computer science, electrical engineering or a related technical discipline preferred
