While Basketball Operations runs the league’s on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world’s most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of NBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the NBA’s success.


Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for driving and managing multi-year corporate partnerships for the WNBA, generating revenue through the sales and management of integrated marketing and media platforms to new and current partners. The role will manage all aspects of the sales and management process from lead generation, pitch ideation, proposal development, contract negotiations, benefit fulfillment and relationship management.


The person in this role will serve as a subject matter expert on the WNBA, driving and managing partnership growth for the league through marketing, licensing and retail partnerships and well as new business ventures (e.g. gaming and betting).There will be a focus on working across the organization to ensure input from key constituents while helping drive the creation, implementation, strategic management and profitability of partner promotional programs and initiatives.


Major Responsibility:

  • Research and identify sales prospects and key company contacts for potential sponsorship opportunities, with a focus on dedicated WNBA-only deals
  • Create and present customized presentations and sales materials based on specific prospect or partner goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with WNBA senior leadership on sales strategy, prospecting, platform development, and relationship management
  • Collaborate with full sales and account teams on multi-property and WNBA-specific deals
  • Manage sales revenue projections, budgets and management of partnership expenses
  • Manage budgets and expenses for marketing partners, including fluency in financial reporting and pipeline management system
  • Independently manage day-to-day partner activation process including activation planning, promotional development, media planning, advertising creation and approval, hospitality, event coordination and recapping
  • Assist in the renewal process for each partner
  • Identify and pursue additional revenue/upsell opportunities
  • Prepare creative review submissions and become fluent in WNBA IP guidelines and processes
  • Develop strong relationships with internal constituents and external partners and agencies
  • Provide partnership expertise in the comprehension of contractual elements, understanding of partners' business goals/target audiences/marketing strategy and knowledge of best practices and industry news
  • Proactively seek input from across organization to develop integrated and successful sponsorship activation ideas for potential and existing partners


Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of revenue generation experience; advertising / sales a plus
  • Track record of closing seven-figure+ deals
  • Established network of decision-makers within the corporate sector
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to effectively identify prospective corporate partners
  • Ability to develop and write thoughtful, customized corporate presentations and partnership proposals
  • Ability to communicate effectively with key internal & external stakeholders
  • Understanding of marketing and branding to develop customized and impactful proposals and secure new partnerships that meet the pre-determined marketing needs of the partner
  • Strong financial and analytical skills; ability to create internal and external reports
  • Strong understanding of all facets of sponsorship activation including events, media, marketing rights, content, etc.

Bachelor's degree in Marketing preferred or relevant experience
