Senior Product Manager, Mobile & Emerging Platforms

Position Summary:

The NBA's NextGen Experience group is looking for a talented product owner to help drive the future of the NBA on iOS and Android OS. The role will also help guide the future of emerging platforms, such as wearables, voice, and auto. The NextGen Experience group leads the strategy for the NBA's global direct-to-consumer product offerings and services available globally in over 215 territories. NextGen at the NBA is a multi-platform experience that connects NBA fans to free and premium content while innovating in the delivery of live games, personalized experiences, community features, emerging technologies, and monetization opportunities globally. We are looking for someone with exceptional energy and ability to deliver quality products to an avid and engaged fan base.


Major Responsibility:

  • Serve as a strategic thought leader for the Next Gen product experience Leverage a deep understanding of latest mobile platform advances to recommend product solutions and guide the design and development of new features and capabilities
  • Define product strategy and help prioritize the roadmap for Mobile platforms, based on a self-developed understanding of consumer needs, product health, strategic objectives, and marketplace opportunities
  • Lead and perform daily product management activities including writing product specs and requirements, as well as crafting high level technical and user experience flows
  • Foster a data-driven product culture that emphasizes continuous testing, experimentation, iterative design and development using lean/agile methodology Formulate outcome-driven hypotheses and conduct product performance measurement and analysis to guide iteration
  • Lean on user research (quantitative and qualitative), leverage existing user engagement data, implement A/B and multivariate tests of features and generate requirements for engineering teams
  • Effectively support the product design, engineering and QA teams throughout sprint cycles by proactively removing roadblocks and help prioritize work and feedback based on established outcomes and business objectives
  • Build and manage relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders, including product owners, marketing, content, sponsorship sales, commerce, external vendors and executives
  • Review application builds to ensure on-time delivery and overall product quality Identify potential timeline soft spots and develop risk mitigation techniques to minimize issues, proactively escalating when appropriate
  • Understand marketplace trends, competitive offerings, new products/technologies and consumer behavior to spot opportunities to enhance the NBA offering


Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 5+ years in digital product development with a proven track record of successful launches of new or updated apps on both iOS and Android
  • Exposure to working with premium subscription products/services using AVOD, TVOD or SVOD business model(s)
  • Familiarity with platform-specific design guidelines, such as Google's Material Design or Apple's Human Interface Guidelines
  • Working knowledge of the native features supported by the iOS and Android operating systems
  • Self-starter who is energetic & enthusiastic, confident, adaptable & customer-oriented
  • Experience producing wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and user interaction diagrams
  • Extensive experience with Agile methodologies including such as scrum or kanban
  • Experience communicating (written and presentation) to senior-level executives.
  • Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a cross-functional team while remaining detail-oriented
  • Strong technical experience working with emerging technologies, video streaming, subscription systems and platform integrations
  • Technical competence and ability to adapt to new technologies and lead teams through these changes
  • Relevant experience within the sports media industry
