Senior Product Manager, Content Experience & Personalization

Position Summary:

The NBA's NextGen Experience group is looking for a talented product owner to lead key content experience initiatives across platforms with a focus on user engagement, cross-platform media consumption, and content personalization. This individual will play a key role in product development initiatives that shape the future of the NBA's ongoing digital transformation. The NextGen Experience group leads the strategy for the NBA's global direct-to-consumer product offerings and services available globally in over 215 territories. NextGen at the NBA is a multi-platform experience that connects NBA fans to free and premium content while innovating in the delivery of live games, personalized experiences, community features, emerging technologies, and monetization opportunities globally.


Major Responsibility:

  • Serve as a strategic thought leader for the NextGen product experience; demonstrate ability to transform strategy into deliverables and product execution & delivery.
  • Leverage a deep understanding of existing content strategies on sports and streaming platforms; passionate and informed about the streaming media space and various content engagement techniques.
  • Strong understanding of content personalization strategies and implementation.
  • Define product strategy and help prioritize the roadmap for the NBA's NextGen content experience including but not limited to video content offerings, personalization, and overall fan experience across platforms.
  • Lead and perform daily product management activities including writing product specs and requirements, as well as crafting high level technical and user experience flows
  • Foster a data-driven product culture that emphasizes continuous testing, experimentation, iterative design and development using lean/agile methodology
  • Formulate outcome-driven hypotheses and conduct product performance measurement and analysis to guide iteration
  • Leverage user research (quantitative and qualitative) and existing user engagement data, implement A/B and multivariate tests of features in order to generate requirements for engineering teams
  • Effectively support the product design, engineering and QA teams throughout sprint cycles by proactively removing roadblocks and prioritizing work items based on established outcomes and business objectives
  • Build and manage relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders, including product owners, product marketing, content, operations, sponsorship sales, commerce, external vendors and executives
  • Review frequent application builds to ensure on-time delivery and overall product quality
  • Identify potential timeline and resourcing constraints and develop risk mitigation techniques to minimize issues - proactively escalating when appropriate
  • Understand marketplace trends, competitive offerings, new products/technologies, and consumer behavior to identify opportunities to enhance the NBA NextGen offering


Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 5+ years in digital product development with a proven track record of successful launches of new or updated apps on iOS and Android; experience with connected devices a plus
  • Exposure to working with premium subscription products/services using AVOD, TVOD or SVOD business model(s)
  • Excellent communicator to senior-level executives (written and in-person); able to adapt communication style across audiences and stakeholder groups.
  • Self-starter who is energetic & enthusiastic, confident, adaptable & customer-oriented
  • Experience producing wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and user interaction diagrams
  • Experience with Agile methodologies such as scrum or Kanban.
  • Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a cross-functional team while remaining detail-oriented
  • Strong technical experience working with emerging technologies, video streaming, subscription systems, and platform integrations
  • Technical competence and ability to adapt to new technologies and lead teams through technology changes
  • Relevant experience within the sports media/streaming media industry
