Position Summary: 


The NBA’s Next Gen Experience group is looking for a talented product owner to help drive the future of the NBA app on a variety of connected device platforms.


The Next Gen Experience group leads the strategy for the NBA’s global direct-to-consumer product offerings and services available globally in over 215 territories. Next Gen at the NBA is a multi-platform experience that connects NBA fans to free and premium content while innovating in the delivery of live games, personalized experiences, community features, emerging technologies, and monetization opportunities globally.  


This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Product leader to play a significant role in shaping the future of products on fast-growing connected devices used by millions of fans around the world. We are looking for someone with exceptional energy and ability to deliver quality products to an avid and engaged fan base.



  • Serve as a strategic thought leader for the Next Gen product experience
  • Define product strategy and help prioritize the roadmap for Connected Device platforms, based on a self-developed understanding of consumer needs, product health, strategic objectives, and marketplace opportunities 
  • Lead and perform daily product management activities including writing product specs and requirements, as well as crafting high level technical and user experience flows 
  • Foster a data-driven product culture that emphasizes continuous testing, experimentation, iterative design and development using lean/agile methodology 
  • Lean on user research (quantitative and qualitative), leverage existing user engagement data, implement A/B and multivariate tests of features and generate requirements for engineering teams 
  • Effectively support the product design, engineering and QA teams throughout sprint cycles by proactively removing roadblocks
  • Build and manage relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders, including product owners, marketing, content, sponsorship sales, commerce, external vendors and executives
  • Review application builds to ensure on-time delivery and overall product quality 
  • Identify potential timeline soft spots and develop risk mitigation techniques to minimize issues, proactively escalating when appropriate 
  • Understand marketplace trends, competitive offerings, new products/technologies and consumer behavior to spot opportunities to enhance the NBA offering 


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in digital product development with a proven track record of successful launches of new or updated apps on several Connected Device platforms
  • Exposure to working with premium subscription products/services using AVOD, TVOD or SVOD business model(s)  
  • Self-starter who is energetic & enthusiastic, confident, adaptable & customer-oriented
  • Experience producing wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and user interaction diagrams
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies including such as scrum or kanban
  • Experience communicating (written and presentation) to senior level executives.
  • Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a cross-functional team while remaining detail-oriented
  • Strong technical experience working with emerging technologies, video streaming, subscription systems and platform integrations 
  • Technical competence and ability to adapt to new technologies and lead teams through these changes
  • A passion for basketball, and a keen understanding of its history, rules, and culture ideal but not required
  • Relevant experience within the sports media industry
  • Familiarity with platform specific design guidelines, such as Google’s Material Design or Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines
