Group Summary 

The HR Business Partner Team, within the Human Resources Team at the NBA, is responsible for providing direct HR support across all business units within the US, Canada and Latin America to drive the attraction and retention of the talent needed to fulfill the organization’s priorities and objectives. Services provided include consultation and support for business leaders to ensure that business needs are met through the coordination of HR services including Talent Acquisition, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Compensation, Talent Management, Employee Relations, HR Operations, Communications and employee engagement.


Position Summary

The Senior HR Business Partner (HRBP) position has oversight over an assigned business vertical as well as independent responsibility to support specific client groups. They are the primary liaison between the business and the HR function with the responsibility of coordinating a human capital strategy that aligns our department services with key business objectives. The position serves as a consultant to senior management on human resource-related issues and the role assesses and anticipates HR-related needs. Communicating these needs proactively within the HR department and client groups, the HRBP seeks to develop integrated solutions. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization. The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business unit's financial position, its midrange plans, its culture and its competition.

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Ensures the coordination and delivery of high-quality HR services and support across business units that is consistent, proactive and timely to effectively attract and retain the necessary talent to advance the mission and goals of the NBA and its leaders. Recommend, customize and implement effective Human Resources solutions to business issues and initiatives. This role also works collaboratively to ensure that the NBA maintains a highly professional work environment, and a culture that is highly diverse and inclusive.  
  • Establish and build credibility as a go to resource for business leaders in serving as an internal consultant to proactively advise clients on the design and implementation of effective organizational structures to help deliver on business objectives and enable long-term success. Provide guidance and input on workforce planning and succession planning.
  • Partner effectively with internal groups and stakeholders to identify areas of need and improvement to advance the NBA’s values with an emphasis on inclusive HR practices that build a highly inclusive work culture.  Look to predict staffing needs and enhance workforce retention. 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the core HR disciplines to drive business outcomes including organizational effectiveness, compensation practices, recruitment, leadership trends and other relevant subjects.  Effectively apply advanced knowledge of HR to the needs of the business in coordinating HR services and support.
  • Improve upon and monitor employee productivity. Manage employee performance issues including the drafting of Performance Improvement Plans and overseeing the termination process. Ensure proper documentation for all performance issues.
  • Manage, coach and mentor HRBPs, Generalists and Analysts.
  • Represent the voice of stakeholders in highlighting both opportunities and challenges with existing policies or practices, outline recommendations for improvements and work collaboratively with stakeholders to implement improvements.  
  • Ensure compliance with NBA policies and proactively identify improvements working in close partnership with the NBA Employment and Labor Relations teams. Where appropriate, assist with all aspects of labor relations (CBA, etc).
  • Effectively partner with other related functions - Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, Employee Relations, Compensation, People Operations & Systems, Benefits, and Legal - to advance the company's mission, values and business strategies. 
  • Analyze trends and metrics in partnership with HR subject matter experts, as well as the business leaders  to strategically develop and recommend solutions, programs and policies.  
  • Enhance recruiting efforts by managing the creation of strong job descriptions and ensuring successful tip-offs between hiring managers and the Talent Acquisition team. Serve as a strong partner to the Talent Acquisition team. 
  • Partner with compensation colleagues to conduct a regular market analysis and structure appropriate compensation and benefits packages.
  • Manage and/or partner with HR COEs on DEI programming, strategy and implementation within respective vertical
  • Align on immigration and sponsorship needs across your departments and enlist appropriate colleagues in Benefits, Talent Acquisition, Legal and Finance as needed.
  • Energize others and champion collaboration amongst HR & the business. 

 

Required Education/Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred in an HR discipline or related field.
  • Minimum 10+ years of HR experience.

  • Conversant and highly adept in analyzing and leveraging metrics and data to establish baselines and support desired people outcomes that drive the business forward.  Experience in analyzing complex business issues, including interpretation of financial and operational data.
  • Expert user of enterprise talent management systems and/or enterprise resource systems to provide relevant business reports related to people.
  • A curious mindset, to think innovatively and rationally about concerns and come up with creative solutions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, including public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Experience in the core disciplines of HR including recruitment (executive search), compensation, learning, organizational development and in using data and analytics to identify important HR related trends. Working knowledge of employment law, HR practices and staffing industry trends.
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to move on desired outcomes within established timeframes. Experience leading and thriving in a dynamic, constantly changing environment.
  • High level of integrity in maintaining sensitive and confidential information.
  • Demonstrates a confident and professional executive presence.
  • Ensure all HR information is handled with a high degree of confidentiality and integrity.

Salary Range: $185,000 - $245,000
