Position Summary:

This position serves as the key Facilities department representative interfacing with regional venues including arenas, academies and offices.  The position will oversee all near-term and long-term regional operational guidelines, facilities standards and real estate initiatives. They will be responsible for identifying operational issues, venue infrastructure or building integrity concerns and be qualified to offer directives to solve matters that would prohibit the NBA from occupying the space or executing a game or event.  They will work closely with international facility operators and serve as a point of contact between the venue operators and the League. This position will also serve as representation on-site prior to and during events and be available in- to troubleshoot or address concerns and be the point of contact for any building-related crisis management issues. 

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain near-term and long-term facility operational and health and safety guidelines and facility standards for international and domestic NBA games and events. Position will be expected to work cross-departmentally and understand the day-to-day functions and goals of each key discipline;
  • Represent the Facilities department in international facility site surveys and evaluations at prospective venues (including, but not limited to; arenas, practice facilities, offices, and academies) to address operational issues, areas of improvement and recommended solutions;
  • Work closely with international facility operators to establish and maintain best practices for operations including arena infrastructure, facility crisis management and near and long-term operational guidelines and execution to maintain league and game integrity;
  • Participate in real estate initiatives by coordinating with real estate advisors and landlords in-market, surveying and recommending offices spaces to accommodate expected growth and managing tenant improvement and construction of regional NBA office spaces;
  • Serve as the lead Facilities representative on international games and events ensuring venues support NBA requirements;
  • Coordinate with League entities to ensure compliance with NBA standards and develop, execute and support strategic plans and programs in accordance with business objectives;
  • Review drawings and consult on the design of potential new venues including arenas, practice facilities, offices and academies;
  • Serve as a point of communication and coordination with internal league representatives, NBA arena operators and facility management representatives and represent the organization in all applicable industry/trade organizations, and serve as a point of contact for all NBA-related facility issues;
  • Participate in project reporting including project site analysis, recommendations, construction status, scheduling, and budget information;
  • Develop the business, build relationships and execute programs in order to offer a high level of service and resources made available to the league;
  • Research, analyze and monitor trends and advancements in the industry to improve and progress venue and operational strategies and implement new initiatives;
  • Work across departments and understand the day-to-day functions and goals of each key discipline;
  • Support arena-related Crisis Management Protocols;
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Facilities  and Venues Department

 

 

Experience Needed:

  • 8-10 years of related large-venue operations experience, preferably in international markets with  a high-level project management, arena management, engineering  or an operations role;
  • Strong analytical, oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to interface at all levels of management and the ability to build a strong working relationship, and rapport with internal and external clients;
  • Extensive conceptual and strategic skills and ability to work with and quickly understand all functional areas of arena development and event execution;
  • High level of competence and analytical orientation;
  • Established ability in areas of problem identification and conflict resolution;
  • Strong ability and vision to work independently and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously;
  • Confidence in meeting tight deadlines and managing multiple projects with an expectation for excellence;
  • Ability and willingness to travel globally;
  • Strong organizational and computer skills including MS Office programs and the ability to use and navigate through various forms of computer-aided design (CAD) documents;
