Position Summary:

The Growth & Media team leads the data strategy across the NBA’s global fan experiences. We’re obsessed with responsibly growing the business and building new capabilities. We are builders and operators. We love breaking down problems and delivering outcomes across the NBA’s dynamic businesses, including Direct-to-Consumer, Global Partnerships, and NBA teams. We do this with deep understanding of technology, data, marketing levers, and sustainable user growth. We are searching for a details-driven teammate that is motivated by new capabilities and efficiency.


As the Data Product Manager, you will manage core data products that enable NBA business users to learn quickly, decide confidently, and scale easily to unlock growth across the NBA fan experience. These data products include – but not limited to – the data warehouse, data visualization tools, ad platform APIs, CRM segments, and calculations like customer lifetime value.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Inspire a talented group of engineers by simplifying problems and writing clear, detailed requirements in a language that they understand
  • Work closely with other Product Managers in the Digital group to deliver a world-class data development experience that enables a world-class fan experience
  • Translate your team's experience and knowledge of the business to use-cases, business requirements, acceptance criteria, and prioritized work
  • Partner with your Data Engineering Partner to enforce Agile fundamentals and to foster a DevOps culture of efficiency, transparency, and impact
  • Execute user acceptance testing (UAT) for your products to ensure that business expectations are met
  • Drive consensus as a subject-matter expert and reliable contributor for multiple stakeholders
  • Serve as an internal product evangelist for the NBA's data products
  • Monitor day-to-day progress of software development, data ingestion, and dependent processes
  • Understand ecosystems, business-user behaviors, consumer behaviors, and long-term trends in the adoption of our products to identity opportunities for step-changes and angle changes in growth.
  • Keep track of competitive and comparable capabilities to inform the product growth strategy and design
  • Drive internal metrics for measuring speed-to-market, quality of development, and ROI
  • Move fluidly and comfortably with evolving priorities and technology


Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of SQL and data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Google Ads Data Hub, Facebook Marketing APIs
  • 5+ years experience in product management, product operations, data engineering, digital marketing, ad tech, or digital analytics
  • 2+ years experience manipulating data sets through statistical software (ex. R, SAS, Pivot Tables) or other methods.
  • Comfort with end-to-end responsibility for your product's wins and losses
  • Strong understanding of consumer-data architectures and innovations in this space
  • You constantly discover opportunities to optimize in everyday life and have a technical curiosity for how systems work
  • You have experience with product development and a technical background, either as an engineer or in a previous technical role
  • You are an excellent communicator and storyteller, communicating intricate concepts and ideas in different formats
  • You are highly self-motivated with the eagerness to flex your skills across functions to get the job done and deliver reliably within deadlines
  • You set high standards for yourself (and therefore others) as an operator and coach



  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required
