Position Summary:

We are actively seeking a Program Manager to help support the National Basketball Social Justice Coalition. The position will assist in the planning, management, and promotion of the Coalition's advocacy agenda. The Program Manager will serve as a frontline policy and advocacy manager; they will also support the successful execution and promotion of key advocacy activations-tracking and maintaining records for Coalition- and team-driven advocacy programs, and assist with a variety of special projects focused on racial and social justice. This position reports to the Coalition's Head of Programs & Partnerships.

 

Major Responsibilities:

Advocacy:

  • Create, develop, and help manage plans, documents, and materials for Coalition advocacy campaigns and initiatives.
  • Support Coalition leadership in social justice education, policy advocacy, and legislative lobbying with key government, public sector, and civil society stakeholders.

 

Policy & Programs:

  • Support all policy and programmatic work that serves the Coalition advocacy mission.
  • Help build Coalition knowledge base on social justice policy and maintain the institutional line of sight on emerging policy developments in Coalition issue areas.
  • Draft and develop key Coalition policy materials (fact sheets, position papers, communications collateral) for internal and external audiences.
  • Conduct rapid research and prepare a diversity of briefing materials and memoranda efficiently and accurately.
  • Serve as frontline researcher and manager of Coalition policy development work; liaise with relevant Coalition partners and consultants.

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 4-7 years' experience working in advocacy (government, non-profit, or other relevant setting preferred)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, exercise flexibility as needed, communicate changes/updates to colleagues in a timely manner.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and writing skills.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in public policy and politics, especially as related to racial and social justice advocacy.
  • Strong experience in communications and digital content management.
  • Ability to think creatively and communicate clearly, professionally, and persuasively (both verbally and in writing).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent at building and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Proven self-management and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Comfort with VIP guests and ability to function in a fast-paced environment, particularly during marquee events.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial and social justice.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience in 501(c)(3) advocacy, 501(c)(4) lobbying, or private sector social responsibility work preferred.
