Position Summary:


We are actively seeking a Program Grant Manager to help lead the first-ever NBA Foundation, a public 501(c)(3) charity, dedicated to creating greater economic empowerment in the Black community! We are looking for someone to help craft and implement the foundation strategy, lead the grant making process, develop foundation programming and support successful fundraising execution. You will perform and be accountable for grantmaking activities, including reviewing and analyzing proposals, writing recommendations for funding and monitoring overall grant performance and building out a national and local grant and program strategy in conjunction with the 30 NBA teams. You will investigate and evaluate all contributions to the development of the Foundation's initiatives and program objectives. As a Program Grant Manager, you will also serve as the primary contact with grantees, handle program and projects to ensure compliance with approved budgets, schedules and resources. Program Grant Managers will report to the Executive Director, and actively partner with the NBA President of Social Responsibility and Player Programs (SRPP), and the Board of Directors and Officers. Major Responsibility:


  • Monitor and implement grantmaking activities, policies and procedures.
  • Develop and closely monitor grantmaking database ensuring compliance around grants.
  • Coordinate and lead data management and oversee integrity through reporting, security of submissions and payments, and financial compliance.
  • Standardize process, communicate requirements, and implement procedures to grantmaking policies and process workflows.
  • Build grant proposals that adhere to the overall mission and follow funding guidelines.
  • Develop positive relationships with NBA teams to support local grantmaking and programming efforts in team markets.
  • Research new funding opportunities in partnership with the Executive Director that are available in local, regional and national markets.
  • Advise on and perform continued assessment of funding and pacing to share out on all transactions.
  • Lead development around fundraising and eligibility of grants to ensure responses to donor requests are timely and acceptable.
  • Lead pitches, budget reviews, programming meetings and troubleshoot data management system.
  • Partner with key parties to ensure proper governance and internal control with financial audits.
  • Support engagement around philanthropic endeavors with nonprofit organizations, NBA teams, players, legends and the media in NBA markets and communities across the United States and Canada.
  • Demonstrate positive relationship management and effective communication to provide timely responses and information vital for the Foundation leadership to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  • Represent the Foundation in meetings with donors, the media, members of the community and/or various speaking engagements and conferences.
  • Develop lasting relationships and collaborate with partners including NBA staff, NBA team staff, players, legends, coaches, donors and executive leadership within public organizations.


Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead large scale projects, data management, financial planning and auditing and/or strategic operations.
  • Ability to collaborate with boards of charitable organizations and leadership.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to articulate purpose of the Foundation and persuade an audience for gifting.
  • Experience working with database management systems and comfortable with applying financial analysis and performance/operation metrics.
  • Strong negotiation skills, interpersonal savvy and proven organizational and political agility.
  • Experience in providing training and technical assistance when troubleshooting. Innovator and idealist with ability to foster a diverse environment.




  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree preferred
