Position Summary:

The NBA's Team Marketing and Business Operations (TMBO) group is a unique in-house consulting arm within the NBA league office that strives to drive best practices and innovation across all NBA, WNBA, NBA G League and NBA 2K teams. The primary focus for this fast paced and collaborative department is on all aspects of business operations, including ticket sales and service, sponsorship, marketing, digital, analytics and data strategy. This position, reporting directly to the SVP, TMBO, will support the business efforts of a portfolio of NBA teams while also developing innovative content, strategies, and analysis to help drive team business performance for all NBA, WNBA, NBA G League and NBA 2K League teams. In so doing, they will consult, train and teach best practices to the teams' presidents, revenue leaders and entire business staff. In addition, they will also be responsible for developing and leading projects that advance the team business in an innovative way, often drawing on best practices from beyond sports.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the business operations functions of each assigned team for strengths and weaknesses
  • Develop and assist team implementation of best practices in team marketing and business operations functions to help:
    • Increase paid ticket sales
    • Increase group sales
    • Increase sponsorship revenue
    • Increase sponsor activation
    • Increase in-arena attendance
    • Improve retention strategy
    • Reduce no-shows
    • Improve marketing, advertising and branding
    • Implement fan development initiatives
    • Develop team business plans
    • Develop a pricing strategy for both ticket sales and sponsorship
  • Determine team priorities in need of consulting support
  • Make follow-up on-site and virtual visits to ensure effective and expeditious implementation
  • Make recommendations to team leadership and facilitate adoption and implementation of best practices
  • Integrate with TMBO staff to share best practices and find solutions for team challenges
  • Assist with TMBO workshops and other meetings for all four leagues


Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 8+ years of experience selling local/national sponsorships and/or ticket sales
  • 10+ years of experience in a fast-paced business environment
  • Deep ticket sales and service, as well as sponsorship sales and service expertise
  • Analytical skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Self-starter
  • Experience in sales and success in developing and executing sales/marketing plans
  • Sports industry experience



Bachelor's Degree in Marketing preferred or relevant experience
