Position Summary
The NBA's Team Marketing and Business Operations (TMBO) group is a unique in-house consulting arm within the NBA league office that strives to grow team & league business performance by promoting best practices and innovation across all NBA teams. This fast-paced and collaborative department is focused on all aspects of business operations, including ticket sales and service, partnership marketing, fan engagement & development, content creation, digital products, business analytics, and data strategy. This position, reporting directly to the SVP, TMBO, will support the business optimization efforts of a portfolio of NBA teams while also developing innovative and multi-faceted revenue-driving strategies to help improve team business performance. In doing so, they will consult with and train / teach best practices to the teams' presidents, revenue leaders and broader business staff. In addition, they will also be responsible for developing and leading projects that advance the collective NBA team business in an innovative way, often drawing on best practices and learnings from beyond sports.

 

Major Responsibilities
•    Analyze the business operations functions of each assigned team for strengths and weaknesses with the goal of developing and supporting team implementation of best practices in team marketing and business operations functions to help:

  • Increase paid ticket sales & in-arena show rate (i.e. attendance)
  • Increase partnership marketing (i.e. sponsorship) revenue
  • Improve ticket buyer retention strategy
  • Improve team marketing, advertising and branding
  • Implement fan development initiatives
  • Develop team’s forward-looking strategic plan
  • Support expansion of team data & analytics capabilities to more strategically engage fans & grow revenue
  • Grow fan engagement with teams’ live & non-live content across team & league channels

•    Determine team priorities in need of consulting support
•    Collaborate with TMBO and broader NBA staff to share best practices and find solutions for team challenges
•    Make recommendations to team leadership and facilitate adoption and implementation of best practices
•    Provide support for teams on-site in local markets and virtually to ensure effective implementation
•    Collaborate with Team Presidents & senior leadership to support execution of mutually beneficial NBA priority initiatives at a local level
•    Assist with TMBO workshops and other meetings

 

Required Education/Professional Experience
•    Bachelor's Degree in Marketing or Business preferred or relevant experience
•    8+ years of direct experience in sports (e.g., prior experience working at a senior level for a team or partnering with sports organizations to sell or activate local/national sponsorships and/or tickets)
•    10+ years of experience in a fast-paced business environment

•    Experience in sales and success in developing and executing sales/marketing plans

Salary Range: $240,000 - $265,000
