Position Summary:

This Content Partnerships, Business Development position will be a principal in dealmaking for the NBA's Content Partnerships team, focusing on media and technology deals for the NBA and the NBA’s affiliate leagues.. This professional will bring negotiating and business development experience in the sports/media industry and will be responsible for leading discussions for certain partnerships and supporting senior dealmakers in executing on others. The ideal candidate will have a highly analytical mindset with the ability to balance business objectives and demanding negotiations. The candidate will help to advocate for partner priorities and needs to other internal constituents (e.g., product, content programming, basketball ops). The candidate should have a strong sense of ownership and executive presence but also expect to roll up sleeves and get into the weeds of business operations and contractual negotiations.

 

Major Responsibility:

  • Cultivate media and technology partner relationships, including developing relationships with prospective new partners
  • Participate in business development, analysis, deal strategy and complex negotiations with media and technology partners, including NBA national media partnerships, team and league level local media matters, content licensing to fantasy/gaming operators and strategic partnerships supporting the NBA’s Next Gen initiative
  • Foster strong working relationships and collaboration across multiple internal NBA departments, including Legal, Product and Media Ops/Technology, Basketball Ops, Direct-to-Consumer, Global Partnerships, Marketing, Content, International, and Production and Programming

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant progressive media experience
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of negotiating complex media distribution deals
  • Knowledge of the US media landscape and media technology
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and enterprising business development skills
  • Strong analytical and negotiating expertise
  • Experience dealing with (or advising on) professional sports media issues preferred

 

Education:

  • Bachelor degree required
  • JD or MBA preferred, but not required
