Institutional Media Planning Manager

While Basketball Operations runs the league’s on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world’s most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of NBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the NBA’s success.

 

Position Summary: 

The Institutional Media Planning Manager will be responsible for the creation, stewardship and reporting of institutional media plans for the NBA. These plans will leverage the NBA's owned media platforms and partner-provided media inventory to support Tune-in, revenue-generating initiatives, NBA Digital (NBAD) products, Global Partnerships and NBA marketing-led initiatives. Plans will also support the WNBA, NBA 2K League and G League. This role sits within the Media Strategy & Planning team, and is apart of the larger Growth & Media subgroup within NBA Marketing. The ideal candidate brings strong experience crafting media plans from a fixed/finite set of media assets and is comfortable managing multiple plans/priorities simultaneously. The Manager will use their solid grasp of  media sufficiency principles (effective frequency, recency, wear-in/out and SOV) to recommend plans that deliver on initiative objectives. Key stakeholders include the NBA's Fan Marketing, Creative, and Global Media Operations teams, agencies, media vendors, and network partners. Strong collaborative, relationship-building and communication skills are a must - along with excellent organizational, presentation, and time management-skills, especially within a fast-paced environment.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted expert/resource on all facets of institutional media including:
    • Available inventory by platform/network
    • Optimal message/initiative allocation
    • Guidelines/rules for creative messaging
    • Creative delivery deadlines and specs
    • Schedule and match-up considerations
    • Media performance and measurement
  • Develop and steward media plans for league initiatives across multiple channels/ platforms (TV, Courtside Signage, Live Reads, Radio, Digital, Print, Video Game, OOH)
  • Coordinate the delivery or creative assets among multiple parties (i.e. Advertising, Creative Services, agencies, media vendors)
  • Create and maintain up-to-date tracking of all institutional plans
  • Advise on media planning tool relaunch
  • Maintain detailed project notes and follow-up with appropriate parties on key deliverables
  • Maintain weekly, monthly and yearly planning timelines, trackers and summaries
  • Maintain an updated rate-card across all media channels

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 5+ years of experience in Media Planning and Reporting experience across all advertising mediums
  • Experience with in-house media planning tools and syndicated resources
  • Experience with international planning/inventory coordination
  • Able to represent ideas and recommendations via strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to juggle multiple tasks within a fast-paced environment, with excellent organizational, presentation and time-management skills
  • Strong collaboration, relationship-building and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and resourceful
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
