Health Information & Records Specialist

Position Summary:

This new position will join a team that works across multiple departments on all matters related to NBA player health. This role will primarily support the management and administration of key player health related systems, focusing on the NBA electronic medical records system, in addition to several other platforms. The health information and records specialist will also interact with NBA team health and performance personnel and participate in systems trainings.

 

Major Responsibility:

  • Assist the existing player health group in the overall management and administration of NBA player health systems, particularly the NBA electronic medical records system, and other systems that contribute to NBA player participation and injury reporting and analyses
  • Manage and track progress of NBA player health related system development and enhancement
  • Support in-person and written training sessions and materials related to player health systems
  • Work with consulting epidemiologists and others on projects related to NBA injury data derived from NBA health related and other systems
  • Communicate with NBA medical consultants and team medical personnel on ongoing projects
  • Assess system performance and reporting requirements and make recommendations for process improvement
  • Identify the latest trends related to medical records management and utilization of derived data for medical research and disseminate information internally with substantive recommendations
  • Support project teams on all aspects of execution.

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 4-6 years of prior electronic medical records, athlete management, or related health systems experience required, preferably in the areas of project management, data quality auditing, or systems development
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Detail oriented and well-organized
  • Proven professionalism with confidential information
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Strong proficiency in drafting documents, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Demonstrated strong interest in and knowledge of sports industry, athlete health, and the game of basketball
  • Experience in the healthcare or sports industry and exposure to orthopedics, sports medicine, and human performance or sports science is a plus.

 

Education:

Bachelor's degree strongly preferred

Master's degree or equivalent experience in any of the following areas strongly preferred - e.g., MScIT, MSIT, MHA, MPH, MPA.
