While Basketball Operations runs the league’s on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world’s most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of NBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the NBA’s success.


Position Summary:

This position will lead a team focused on business development, deal strategy, deal-making and partner management for new media content partners, which include social media and emerging media offerings. This experienced leader will be charged with developing employees and effective resource allocation. This position will be the market intelligence expert and deal architect for content partnerships with social media partners, new content platforms and emerging technology (e.g., AR/VR/MR). This position will also lead content partnership efforts for NBA marketing partners, including those in betting, videogaming and fantasy sports. This position will cultivate meaningful relationships with partners across all of these areas and work to align partner priorities and NBA opportunities. This position will also work in close collaboration with colleagues to make the most of these content partnerships, including other Content Partnerships colleagues, other NBA groups such as Content, International, Direct-to-Consumer, Marketing, Content Strategy and Betting & Gaming, and affiliate leagues such as the WNBA, G League and NBA 2KL. This position will also communicate with, and present to, NBA senior leadership on a regular basis. The ideal candidate will have a creative and innovative mindset with the ability to think deeply about the future of NBA content while balancing business objectives. Musts for this role include the following abilities: piloting complex and nuanced business priorities with brainstorming and problem-solving skills, representing the NBA well in authentic relationships with business partners and leading a business critical team with a positive attitude. Candidate should have a strong sense of ownership and executive presence, with the ability to roll up sleeves and get into the weeds when necessary.


Major Responsibility:

  • Cultivate and anchor new media content partner relationships
  • Lead business development, deal strategy, deal-making and partner management for new media partners
  • Interface with NBA senior leadership and foster strong working relationships and collaboration across multiple internal NBA departments and affiliate leagues


Required Skills/Knowledge: 

  • Minimum of 10+ years of relevant progressive new media experience
  • Minimum of 10+ years of negotiating new media relationships
  • Subject matter expertise and broad relationship network in the new media space
  • Creative, innovative mindset and enterprising business development outlook
  • Strong analytical and negotiating expertise
  • Experience dealing with (or advising on) professional sports media issues preferred, but not required



  • Bachelor degree required
  • JD or MBA preferred, but not required
