Position Summary:

The WNBA is seeking a Fan Engagement Director to help define and lead the strategic approach of the League's fan acquisition and engagement efforts, with the goal of enhancing the fan experience, growing revenue streams, improving internal processes to make our digital marketing efforts more efficient, and growing the overall WNBA fanbase. This role will focus on data strategy beginning with identifying/sizing opportunities for fan data capture, overseeing the implementation of those opportunities via marketing and partnerships, maximizing the utilization of the data by delivering engaging experiences and content, and helping to quantify the value of the data we have on our fans. It will work collaboratively with key stakeholders throughout the organization including Team Marketing & Business Operations (TMBO), League Marketing, and IT to oversee the WNBA's email strategy, lead acquisition, and fan database infrastructure, and align on League objectives. Ideal candidates will be highly tactical self-starters with a background in marketing and a passion for sports.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Create new ideas, platforms, and campaigns that serve to engage and grow the NBA's fan base through our Digital Ecosystem
  • Complement the League Business and League Marketing Strategic direction with measurable action plans
  • Set baseline foundation (incl. baseline goals & forecasts) for growing marketable base through robust audience development and data capture strategy
  • Lead data analytics sharing across the organization
  • Identify data attributes and mechanisms for progressive profiling to enable better targeting and personalization
  • Work cross-functionally to grow our fanbase through League, Teams, and Partner programming
  • Contribute to the evaluation and evolution of existing Digital Platforms and Fan Experiences (League Pass, App, Web, Email, SEO, All-Star Vote, etc)
  • Socialize progress regularly with internal leadership, across functions and external partners including teams, sponsors, agencies Identify potential innovation partners/work that could enhance fan growth and engagement


Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 5+ years of experience in the marketing industry
  • Strong experience with marketing strategy tools, including email service providers, lead acquisition tools, customer database, and management tools
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and proactive with strong project management skills.
  • Can effectively manage resources and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to promptly establish priorities and communicate expectations
  • Experience working cross-functionally with an array of internal teams
  • A willingness to operate within gray spaces and a desire to build impactful practices within the organization


Education: Bachelor's Degree in Marketing or relevant work experience preferred
