Job Summary:
The WNBA's digital products are generating global fan interest. Continuously pushing boundaries and setting new records, the league is building a best-in-class digital product suite that millions of fans are actively engaging with.
As a lead, you will guide a cross-functional team responsible for the full software development life cycle, from concept to deployment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about staying on top of technology trends, experimenting with new technologies, and collaborating with both internal and external tech teams.
In this role, you'll balance business impact, influence, and the growth of the engineering team. You should be comfortable with both front-end and back-end coding languages, development frameworks, and third-party libraries. As an expert in your field, you will strategically guide the team toward achieving the league’s core goals. You will foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, creative problem-solving, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity.
Major Responsibilities:
- This leadership role requires a proven track record of delivering high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions in a fast-paced, startup environment
- Act as a primary liaison for cross-functional coordination with third-party vendors, analytics teams, and QA
- Continuously improve software engineering practices and drive internal development efficiency through CI/CD improvements, tooling development, documentation, and process optimization
- Manage release coordination and promote best practices for continuous improvement across the engineering organization
- Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams of product-focused full-stack engineers (both front-end and back-end)
- Lead initiatives for resource management, capacity planning, and infrastructure optimization to ensure seamless scalability and reliability
- As a key member of the leadership team, collaborate with engineering and executive teams to anticipate needs, foster alignment, and develop solutions that balance technical excellence with business objectives.
- Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams, effectively communicating priorities, roadmaps, and solutions to stakeholders at all levels
- Establish and maintain an actionable monitoring system to ensure optimal visibility into system performance, minimizing false alarms while addressing real issues promptly
Required Education/Professional Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Proven experience as a Full Stack Software Engineer or similar role
- At least 4 years of experience in people management
- Proven experience developing web and mobile applications and cloud computing
Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes:
- Strong knowledge of Node.js 14.x+, ES6+, TypeScript, and experience with asynchronous operations (e.g., promises, generators)
- Strong knowledge of Amazon Web Services inclusive of Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, SQS, EC2, auto-scaling and other micro-services
- Strong knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (e.g., HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, JSON, XML)
- Strong knowledge of multiple JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Node.js, React, Vue.js) and back-end languages (e.g. PHP, Node, Python)
- Familiarity with databases (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB), web servers (e.g., Apache), and UI/UX design
- Familiarity with common stacks, Knowledge of Content Delivery Networks (e.g., Akamai) and CI/CD stack
- Knowledge of web server technologies (e.g., Apache) and web proxies (e.g., Varnish)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, inclusive of Azure DevOps, API management, Virtual Machines Knowledge of Windows Server 2012 (and up) and how to remotely manage Windows server instances
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
Salary Range: $180,000 - $195,000
