Subscription Growth Strategist, Next Gen

While Basketball Operations runs the league’s on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world’s most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of NBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the NBA’s success.

 

Position Summary:

The Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) team focuses on growing the NBA League Pass business globally by using insights and decision making. The group works dynamically within a matrix organization to align efforts across Marketing, Product, Finance, Strategy, Analytics and Partnerships, among others!

 

In this role, you will drive the lifecycle strategy for growing organic users on the NBA's website and app into NBA League Pass subscribers. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in and preferably some experience with crafting user journeys in a subscription or e-commerce business. In addition to this experience, the candidate should be technically proficient with the ability to establish, track and communicate critical metrics to all business partners.

 

Major Responsibility:

  • Lead and own strategy for growing users on NBA.com and the NBA app to become NBA League Pass subscribers
  • Develop customized journeys starting from a user's initial visit to NBA's website/app through their subscription to League Pass
  • Build personas for different types of organic users based on inputs such as NBA affinity, interest in League Pass and ability to pay
  • Partner with data scientists to build, test and improve propensity to subscribe modeling for prospective subscribers
  • Collaborate with key partners in Product, Marketing and Content to execute efforts geared at growing ratio of NBA League Pass subscribers to NBA non-paying website/app users
  • Research and become very familiar with growth standard methodologies from other subscription and e-commerce providers in the industry
  • Conduct analyses around the impact of certain behaviors on likelihood to subscribe
  • Work with data from various sources/platforms to develop deeper insights into user behavior
  • Conceptualize new growth strategies with the input of quantitative & qualitative insights
  • Communicate key findings, progress and updates unilaterally across departments taking time to explain and evangelize the methods and technologies involved
  • Become proficient in new technologies, vendors and platforms sought at achieving key goals

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Minimum 4 years prior work experience, preferably in a fast growing role with experience at a premiere subscription, technology, gaming or content company
  • Experience researching and analyzing data & insights from different sources and connecting the dots to help inform business decision making
  • Familiarity with common mobile app and website technologies and platforms
  • Consistent track record in running multiple projects, setting priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and MS Word applications
  • Experience with digital research products and business intelligence tools a plus
  • Demonstrated excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a global, matrix organization and influence teams to execute on goals.
  • Ability to work independently and follow process with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Growth oriented and keen to test new ideas and iterate to measurably increase metrics

 

Education:

Bachelor's degree required
