Position Summary

The Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Strategy & Analysis team is a key part of the NBA’s DTC Monetization group. The Monetization group focuses on driving growth of the NBA’s digital DTC business globally (including League Pass subscriptions, NBA ID membership, and overall digital platform), by using data-driven insights and decision making. They work dynamically within a matrix organization to align efforts across Marketing, Content, Product, Membership, Finance and Partnerships, among others.

 

The DTC Strategy & Analysis team plays a key part in growing the global direct-to-consumer business at the NBA. They own forecasting efforts to advise senior leadership on key strategic decisions, they lead long-term business planning and performance tracking, and help drive ad hoc special projects. This includes preparing complex financial models, presentation materials, industry peer group comparisons, evaluation of new business opportunities, and other analyses as needed. In collaboration with DTC team members and senior leadership alike, this function helps guide strategic decision making, using data-driven insights to fuel growth. The ideal candidate has a firm understanding of all the critical metrics relevant for a DTC business and accounts for them accordingly when performing analyses and influencing decision making.

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Perform financial & strategic analyses to advise senior leadership on the strategic direction of the NBA’s global Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) subscription business
  • Develop complex forecasting models at global, regional and market levels with limited oversight, to provide insights and analysis to grow the DTC business across subscription, advertising, partnerships and other monetization streams

  • Analyze trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenue and expenses, pricing and packaging, user acquisition, engagement, and retention – and aid in the development of high impact strategic initiatives to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate risks

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to seamlessly integrate DTC analyses into broader, department / league-wide initiatives, and influence strategic direction

  • Prepare compelling presentations to communicate business performance to senior leadership as well as regional and department heads.

  • Lead performance tracking against departmental and company goals through the creation and distribution of pacing, reforecast and presentation materials on a regular cadence

  • Perform ad hoc analyses to drive high impact decisions and/or set targets for key initiatives and analyze subsequent performance

  • Analyze complex financial information across industry comps to serve as benchmarks for internal analyses and inform strategy

 

Required Education/Professional Experience

 

  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in e.g. Investment Banking, Strategy Consulting, Private Equity, Media, and/or Tech industries

  • Work experience with subscription-based media or other DTC businesses preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Salary Range: $130,000 - $155,000
