Position Summary:

The Corporate Finance & Strategy group provides analytical and transactional support to the NBA league office and to our 30 teams, with the goal of enabling the NBA to achieve its long-term financial targets. This group is also tasked with maintaining the NBA’s near-term and long-term financial models, forecasting and analyzing the effects of the NBA’s revenue sharing plan across teams, and helping to optimize the capital structure and franchise values of our 30 teams.

 

This position in the Corporate Finance & Strategy group will play a crucial role in supporting the group’s efforts. This individual will perform extensive financial analysis in support of NBA teams and strategic league-wide initiatives, develop an in-depth understanding of our unique financial systems, and work in close partnership with other groups throughout finance and the broader organization.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead internal financial analysis of NBA team-related transactions, including team ownership sales, and team and arena financings
  • In coordination with commercial business units, lead financial analysis of potential league corporate development opportunities, including potential acquisitions, joint venture arrangements, and capital raises
  • Analyze and evaluate policies relating to team capital structure, including debt and equity ownership policies
  • Analyze and evaluate the league’s capital structure, including potential structuring opportunities related thereto
  • Support transactions related to league-managed credit facilities
  • Manage various investor relations functions with institutional investors in NBA teams
  • Assist with preparation of memos and meeting materials for NBA Board of Governors meetings

 

Required Experience/Knowledge:

  • Ability to produce complex financial models from scratch and quickly digest existing models, with deep attention to detail
  • Expert user of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proactive self-starter who can work independently within set objectives
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and a solution-oriented approach
  • Experience working and multi-tasking in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; comfortable presenting to and communicating with league and team senior executives
  • Minimum 6-8 years relevant finance experience; ideal candidate will have meaningful experience in investment banking, corporate finance, or other related fields
  • Direct experience in sports and/or media industries preferred

 

Educational Background:

Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA a plus
