While Basketball Operations runs the league’s on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world’s most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of NBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the NBA’s success.

 

Position Summary:

This position will manage various elements of the video game and consumer product businesses at the NBA. Job responsibilities include the day-to-day management of video game and mobile gaming partners, overseeing consumer product licensees and driving business development across the team's licensing portfolio.

 

Major Responsibility:

Provide overall partner management across the NBA's gaming and digital product partnerships, including:

  • Manage various gaming and digital product partnerships that span several categories of the NBA's business including console video games, mobile games and emerging digital products
  • Lead partner-driven initiatives and programs that span marketing, media, retail and event activations
  • Oversee digital product and game development
  • Provide end-to-end management of in-game and marketing approvals
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to achieve gaming partner objectives (e.g., PR, events, marketing, media, global retail development, social responsibility, etc.)
  • Execute strategies to further grow the league's video game business and enhance our gaming and digital product offering globally
  • Prepare meeting materials, meeting notes, presentations, recap materials and key client communications

Own licensing relationships and business development within consumer products categories, including:

  • Manage existing consumer products licensee relationships via product approvals, supporting sell-in at retail, aiding with marketing strategy, and oversight of reporting and licensee financials
  • Lead and execute renewal negotiations with portfolio of consumer products licensees
  • Support the NBA's trading card business through day-to-day partnership management including product approvals and marketing, and contribute to the overall growth strategy by identifying ways to further build the business globally
  • Drive new business by proactively seeking out and engaging with potential new consumer products and gaming licensees across traditional, non-traditional and emerging mediums
  • Serve as an expert on the league's IP and identity guidelines and processes
  • Conduct industry research and market intelligence on key category trends and competitor activity; track pipeline activity, build recommendations to grow strategic pillars of the consumer products business and support active new business conversations

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 2-4 years professional experience in relevant field (gaming, licensing, partnership management, brand management)
  • High competency level with Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • General knowledge of gaming industry
  • Understanding of partnerships business
  • Sharp eye for detail and high level of organization
  • Motivated go-getter with demonstrated ability to self-start
  • Strong time-management and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or Communications or relevant experience preferred
