Chief Operating Officer, NBA G League

Position Summary:

 

The Chief Operating Officer, NBA G League will work alongside the President, NBA G League to develop revenue strategies ensuring the sustainable profitability of the League and its teams, while also implementing the operational infrastructure needed to support the League's long-term scalability. This role will be responsible for monetizing League's assets and leveraging fan data to inform decision-making as it relates to both business and basketball.

 

Major Responsibility:

 

  • Plan, develop, and execute long-term business development and marketing initiatives across multiple categories, including but not limited to sponsorships, media distribution and merchandising.
  • Identify and create new sellable assets on behalf of the league and ensure existing assets are fully monetized.
  • Assess and evaluate the League's current partner value proposition and enhance the league's overall brand value.
  • Leverage existing networks in order to identify prospective partners and lead efforts in converting passive partnerships to active partnerships.
  • Build out the League's operational infrastructure that supports the execution of its revenue strategy.
  • Develop team incentivization models in order to drive NBA G League teams to invest in their internal business operations.
  • Lead and develop the League's market/fan research strategy with the focus on setting success metrics and leveraging fan data in order to identify pathways for maximizing the value to our target fans.
  • Work cohesively with the NBA G League leadership team to develop and grow the league's on-court product.

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

 

  • At least 15 years of combined experience in creating profit/revenue strategies and organizational infrastructure.
  • Strong background in business development and sales operations.
  • Outstanding communicator who effectively collaborates with a variety of stakeholders, nimbly managing to influence positive change.
  • Professional experience and successful track record of managing a P&L, planning tools, budgets, and operational controls in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Proven track-record of successfully managing and developing high-performing talent.
  • Experience working cross-functionally in a highly matrixed, global organization.
  • Previous experience working in minor/major league sports a plus.

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred
