Brand Director - WNBA

Position Summary:

This position will drive the seasonal marketing process for the WNBA, driving the strategy through the functional support teams (Design and Digital Products), Content, PR, Global Partnerships, Sales, Operations, and Media Distribution teams. He/she will collaborate with NBA Marketing, G League, and the 2K League, with the focus on elevating the W's brand awareness while driving broader and deeper engagement with our target audiences. He/she will also be responsible for overseeing agency and in-house project and process management to ensure alignment against the WNBA's overarching brand strategy.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the creation of a multi-year marketing strategy for the WNBA
  • Manage the execution of the WNBA's Annual Marketing Plan including identifying and leveraging the tentpole moments throughout the year
  • Set brand strategy, influence functional tactics, and drive the operationalization of bringing the plans to fruition
  • Work closely with the Marketing Functions (Design, Digital Products), Global Partnerships, PR, Operations, and the CGO to align on cross-functional league initiatives 
  • Manage a significant brand & creative budget designed to deliver specific brand awareness and engagement platforms
  • Effectively manage brand strategy through partner agencies, including drafting strategic and creative briefs, establishing objectives, and providing ongoing guidance
  • Work closely with Data, Analytics & Insights team to measure the impact of creative & campaigns on key top-of-funnel metrics, like awareness and engagement
  • Collaborate with the other leagues (NBA, G League, 2K League) to share best practices and key learnings
  • Create content/reports for socializing marketing plans and outcomes internally across functions and externally with the 12 partner teams
  • Effectively analyze results of initiatives then use those findings to influence future strategies and report performance to leaders

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 10-12+ years of work experience in brand and creative with a strong focus on brand strategy, creative development, operations, and execution
  • Cross-functional knowledge including membership, consumer engagement, new platform development
  • Experience owning managing a seven-figure creative budget across multiple concurrent campaigns
  • Expertise in developing brand strategy, creative development, and operations
  • Experience developing insights-driven strategic & creative briefs that translate into clear brand strategy and impactful creative campaigns
  • Ability to present both high level and tactical plans to internal stakeholders and external partners (PA, Teams, Partners)
  • Experience developing multi-channel creative campaigns (TV, Digital, Social, experiential, etc), including asset management
  • Must have broad experience and understanding of all facets of brand marketing & creative, including consumer insights, positioning, creative development, and delivery
  • Experience managing outside agencies is required
  • Experience influencing horizontally and vertically is key; managing people / leading teams is a strong plus
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver high-quality written and verbal content
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous, fast-paced setting without ready-made processes

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing or relevant work experience preferred
