Position Summary:
The Basketball Operations Specialist will be a vital contributor to the WNBA League Operations Department, which encompasses Basketball Operations (on-court activities), Player Development (player appearances and programs), Basketball Administration (compliance and governance) and other specific league led initiatives. This position, reporting to the Vice President of Basketball Operations, requires a candidate with a demonstrated passion for women’s basketball, a track record of managing complex operational tasks, an ability to work cross-functionally, and an aptitude for building strong relationships across the women’s basketball ecosystem.
 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Support the VP of Basketball Operations across an array of on-court matters, including basketball technology, game scheduling, team travel, referee logistics, game execution, and facilities oversight.
  • Manage critical league basketball operations tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Composing and distributing annual team binders containing rule updates and compliance guidelines, as well as operations manuals, rulebooks, casebooks, signage, and equipment
    • Collecting all team travel itineraries and practice schedules
    • Assisting with the maintenance of the EMR system and collecting monthly team medical reports
    • Overseeing other basketball operations administrative tasks as needed, including expense reporting, memo correspondence, and discipline notifications
  • Serve as a key liaison to team basketball operations staff, disseminating updates from the league office and compiling pertinent information and feedback from the teams.
  • Assist with meeting preparation for in-person and virtual touchpoints with WNBA General Managers and Head Coaches, including annual preseason and Competition Committee meetings.
  • Provide onboarding support of new basketball operations staff, including for WNBA expansion teams.
  • Support management of on-court and player logistics for marquee league events, including the WNBA Draft and WNBA All-Star.


Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • 5+ years of operations experience, with team operations experience preferred
  • Strong presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Self-starter
  • Experience in a client service role a plus
  • Sports industry experience

 

 

Salary Range: $110,000 - $125,000
