Head of Finance - NBA Africa & BAL

Position Summary: Serve as the key financial adviser to the CEO, NBA Africa, Head of Finance & Strategy EMEA (London), Global Head of League Finance (New York) and other key business stakeholders within the NBA Africa and Basketball Africa League (BAL) business units. Direct and lead all aspects of financial performance management, budgeting, forecasting, business decision support, accounting, controllership and treasury in coordination with central NBA Finance and Accounting groups to ensure compliance with local accounting and tax requirements, and operational support for the NBA Africa and BAL business units. Participate as a member of the senior management team for NBA Africa and support the NBA Africa Board of Directors reporting requirements.|Major Responsibility: Major Responsibilities Provide meaningful, timely and actionable financial analysis on the NBA Africa and BAL business units to the NBA Africa and BAL leadership teams, the Head of Finance & Strategy EMEA (London), and the NBA League Finance teams (New York). Direct and support the NBA Africa and BAL business units in the development and preparation of long-term strategic plans, annual business plan & budget, and monthly forecasting process in coordination with the central Finance function (New York). Lead the Finance and strategy support for all NBA Africa commercial business units, including Television & Digital content, Direct-To-Consumer subscription-based services, Sponsorship and Advertising, Merchandise Licensing, Ticket Sales, in addition to, operational business units Direct and oversee monthly P&L and management reporting process, including reviewing results with senior management. Ensure accurate and timely submission of required financial reports and analyses, including departmental, segment and geographic reports, variance analyses, business performance narrative, etc. Deliver quarterly financial reporting and annual updates to the NBA Africa Board of Directors, including supporting MD&A narrative and other ad-hoc requests for the BOD. Support the NBA Africa growth strategy with expansion into key markets, which may include formation of new legal entities and supporting finance, accounting, payroll and tax infrastructure. Work with the NBA Accounting and Controller Group (New Jersey) to ensure compliance of all accounting procedures, processes, and controls, as well as implementing improvements and efficiencies where possible. Work with the NBA Accounting and Controller Group to ensure local fiscal and regulatory compliance for all NBA Africa and BA legal entities, including tax, VAT and statutory financial statement filing requirements and annual audits. Treasury Management, control, banking facilities, and cash flow forecasting. Maintain open and ongoing lines of communication with NBA Africa and BAL operating staff and finance team, and other regional or US-based staff, to resolve queries and support all business and operational initiatives. In conjunction with the NBA Controller Group, manage relationships with external professional service providers, and evaluate and engage third party suppliers, as required e.g., 3rd party accounting, tax, and bookkeeping firms, business consultants, etc. Support and coordinate with and support Human Resources, Legal, and Payroll, as necessary, concerning payroll and benefits processing. Supervise, coach, and manage work assignments of Finance direct reports and provide instruction and direction to regionally-based Finance staff, in order that all pertinent responsibilities are efficiently carried out. Additionally, the role will be responsible for building a local finance team. Support and coordinate alignment of Finance best-practices, controls and policies as may be directed on a global basis by the New York office. |Required Skills/Knowledge: Required Skills/Knowledge Sound knowledge of accounting and tax principles, controls, and procedures. Sound judgment, demonstrating logical decision-making capabilities. Strong business and commercial acumen English language fluency, plus an additional language, notably French, preferred Excellent team-management, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills Proactive willingness to 'roll-up your sleeves', strong teamwork, task prioritization and problem-solving skills Attention to detail is essential as well as the ability to learn quickly and add value by applying analytical and business fundamentals Experience Needed Minimum of 12 years of relevant finance advisor and finance operations experience Sports, media, entertainment and/or extensive pan-African experience preferred Advanced Excel financial modeling experience required Experience working with accounting ledger systems (particularly SAP) Experience with data analysis and budget management Experience with Board of Directors reporting|Education:Educational Background Required Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting or related discipline required Accountancy qualification / CFA / Advanced Degree preferred
